Very good overall I like the car, the looks, the drive and the handling - the acceleration lacks some urgency but this is a minor niggle considering it's the 1.9 tdi and cost a lot less than a 2.0. My huge HUGE problem with this car is the auto-handbrake. It doesn't engage when it should engage, it locks up when you're rolling in a traffic queue with an awful grating noise and it means you have to rev the car and let up the clutch to such an extent that you cant pull away in snow - the wheels just spin. I've had it looked at twice and there's nothing "wrong" with it - it's just crap and technology for technology's sake. For the sake of losing two drinks-holders I'd much prefer an actual non-geeky, functioning handbrake....

this vw passat 2.0 tdi estate m/y 06 is the best car I have had in 65 years of driving, it is used to tow a 1400kg caravannduring the summer and does this more than adequatly even up 1 in 4 mountains in Scotland. The paint finish is excellent (steel grey) the interior is showing no wear, the car is used most days. The electronic hand brake works well so long as the seat belt is fixed in place.

As a saloon, it is almost perfect. Unfortunately, the deep boot is difficult to use because of the small lid opening - if it were available as a hatchback at a similar price, it would be almost perfect. One other gripe - in the current snow, I really miss a proper handbrake! A button operated parking brake is either fully on or fully off, useless in the snow!

Versatile allrounde,excellent boot and economy. Comfortable for touring. Let down by a fuel pump failure. There were 6 others in at the same time. Took 6 weeks to fix. Thought a call back notice would have been used.
Wheels and badges prone to corrosion. Electronic hand brake still needs care.

I have the Passat 2.0 tdi sport 170 saloon, the car has been frugal to keep and eats motorway miles without problems, the engine although a bit gruf is a good performer only gripe is a squeaking from the dash which I think comes from a fully loaded 6 disc autochanger.

Problems with the electrics were fixed under warranty but the clutch and brakes were due to wear and tear. Overall I like the car very much, but feel I need to get rid as it is getting a bit old and may start to cost me more and I use it for my work.

As it gets older it seems to get better. May be because I had a bad experience with Autohaus Northampton where I bought the car from.
