It has the brand image so many supermini buyers desire, but is the Polo a letdown for owners? This set of results suggests they are becoming increasingly dissatisfied.

You could argue that poor scores in the handling and performance categories won’t bother 'mini buyers too much, but 86th for ride and 93rd for comfort show that the Polo is beginning to look outclassed.

Manufacturer Verdict (Position: 16th)

It’s tough for high-volume makers to stay at the top here, yet VW has climbed one place. The MkVI Golf will be included in the 2010 poll, and bosses will hope it will lift the firm further ahead of its rivals.

I absolutely love it, which is why I still have it.
Alas, Volkswagen have changed the POLO - it is now bigger, and the colour range is not so good as when I got the car. So I am hanging on to it until I cannot reasonably do so any longer.
Passengers comment on how comfortable the seats and the ride are.
The only slight snag is that we have the three-door version - which was to be able to get my father and his wheelchair in, and the two side doors are MASSIVE, which means that passengers always have to be warned, and it is not easy in "mean" carparks where the bays are narrow. It was OK when my father was still alive and he had a disabled opermit, but gpr an able-bodied person you have really to be able-bodied in eg the G-Mex Centre in Manchester.

Only had the car a couple of months. Love the sporty look of the car and the finish inside and out. Good features. Had hoped the petrol consumption would be better for the 1200 cc 70 BHP engine (usually go for 1.4 engine, but with young drivers in family wanted to keep insurance costs down). Engine throbs a bit around 50 mph - getting this checked out. Small problem so far with occasional condensation in headlights - going to get sorted too hopefully under warranty. Still comfy ride, suspension and cornering good, and enough space for 4 adults comfortably. My husband has had 8 VWs from Polo, Golfs, Passats to Sharan. I have always wanted a VW Polo and don't regret my decision.

Love it. Just not big enough for a family (there were only two of us when we bought it!). My only niggle was that to get the 1.9TDi engine I had to have sports suspension and feel every bump and pothole... but apart from that, I am sad to pass it on. But it'll be going to my spouse, so I can still drive it when I'm not pottering about in my new eco Golf!

It's a great nippy car, but has started rattling much sooner than I expected. Also wish I could raise the seat, as I'm not very tall and need cushions to drive comfortably.

A practical economical run about - not particularly comfortable or practical as it has a small load carrying capacity until you collapse everything

Relatively cheap, spacious and comfortable and quite a lot of space despite small hatchback. Feels much bigger in terms of comfort and equipment.

It's practical and cheap for what I need which is important in the current economic climate. Ideally, I'd lover a newer, more fashionable car.
