It has the brand image so many supermini buyers desire, but is the Polo a letdown for owners? This set of results suggests they are becoming increasingly dissatisfied.

You could argue that poor scores in the handling and performance categories won’t bother 'mini buyers too much, but 86th for ride and 93rd for comfort show that the Polo is beginning to look outclassed.

Manufacturer Verdict (Position: 16th)

It’s tough for high-volume makers to stay at the top here, yet VW has climbed one place. The MkVI Golf will be included in the 2010 poll, and bosses will hope it will lift the firm further ahead of its rivals.

It's o.k. - there are things I really like about it - style, colour, heated leather seats, great stereo. But it has proved to be a bit unreliable and expensive to maintain. I do like VWs and this is my second Polo but if I bought another Polo I would not buy the same model (mine is a 1.4 Sport). Quite interested in the Polo Blue Motion but the initial outlay is quite high, with low running costs and low CO2 emissions.

This polo estate ispractical, economical but tight on rear leg room. Being a base model it does not have ABS and when not loaded the rear brakes lock up under heavy breaking. Its a pity VW does not chose to make estate variants of the polo anymore. May have to buy a Skoda Fabia estate.

for the money its ideal, a runaround town vehicle with 4 doors, it provides reasonably good fuel efficiency and insurance is cheap as engine is small. My boot will not accomodate golf clubs unless back seats down. Match is styled with leather steering wheel, and bucket seats.

low powered engine, does what we expected of it,surprised to find there are no rear spaekers and the cigarette lighter is a blank.Overall very happy with it though ,cheap and economical.

Great little car, looks good, can go up to 110 mph which is more than enough for normal driving, accelerate ok without full of people/stuff in the car.

Being the Blue motion is is ideal for open roads but makes driving on "A" class roads tiring and difficult because of the high gearing

£35 road tax, 60mpg, 600-700miles on a tank of fuel. Totally reliable, and only demands a service every two years!
