The S60 has been awarded a set of results that suggest owners have a love/hate relationship with their cars.

On the plus side, you told us it is the most comfortable model money can buy.

Less impressively, the saloon body isn’t the most practical, while the handling is far from sporty.

However, your biggest gripe is the S60’s expensive running costs.

WINNER OF CATEGORY - Comfort

When you get out of your car after a long journey, are you left doubled up in agony or feeling fresh and relaxed? Getting comfortable in your car is key to enjoying your driving. Models at the top of this chart are guaranteed to take the strain out of any journey. With an amazing score of 97.00 per cent, Volvo’s S60 is leagues ahead of the competition. The Swede’s seats strike the perfect balance between supporting your body when cornering, and providing just enough cushioning for long-distance comfort. The Lexus RX SUV and Skoda’s Superb also rate highly in this category. Nissan’s Note, Mitsubishi’s Colt and Ford’s Fiesta make up the bottom three – it seems small cars are the ones leaving you with aches and pains.

Manufacturer Verdict (Position: 13th)

The Swedish brand has slipped again. You love the comfort and refinement of its cars, but aren’t so keen on how much they cost to run. The new range of eco-friendly DRIVe models will surely help.

The S60 is a quality car that transports my family in comfort and quietness. The engine pulls really well, but a 2.4l petrol should!
People have complained about the lack of space, particularly the boot, but we are a family of four and easily transport ourselves and associated clutter (including a pram) where ever we need to go.
As it is nine years old I expect things to go wrong from time to time, especially as it is getting towards 90K miles.
Overall I am very satisfied, and so are the family!

Under-rated car but absolutely incredible value for money. The low speed urban ride could be better and it's not as sharp a drive as some of the competition - however, the D5 185 engine is superb and the car is a fantastic car to do long journeys in because of its refinement, comfort, effortless power and impressive economy. Handsome looking thing too with a good quality interior and a fab stereo.

the S60R looks just like an ordinary Volvo, but has 300 bhp and 4-wheel drive. This means it's reasonably quick but looks like any other boring Volvo. In snow, it's awsome and I've never had to put chains on yet!

A comfortable ride, excellent power, great handling apart from the roll felt in cornering. And amazing space for driver and passengers front and rear with great capacity with folding split rear seats.

I like it a lot. Loads of power yet economical to run. Service bills are expensive and the steering lock is appalling but very comfortable to drive.

Very safe and comfortable, servicing costs high but good dealerships. Not as dynamic to drive as some rivals but an effortless long distance car.
