Position in the Top 100 cars: 45th

The S60 has been awarded a set of results that suggest owners have a love/hate relationship with their cars.

On the plus side, you told us it is the most comfortable model money can buy.

Less impressively, the saloon body isn’t the most practical, while the handling is far from sporty.

However, your biggest gripe is the S60’s expensive running costs.

WINNER OF CATEGORY - Comfort

When you get out of your car after a long journey, are you left doubled up in agony or feeling fresh and relaxed? Getting comfortable in your car is key to enjoying your driving. Models at the top of this chart are guaranteed to take the strain out of any journey. With an amazing score of 97.00 per cent, Volvo’s S60 is leagues ahead of the competition. The Swede’s seats strike the perfect balance between supporting your body when cornering, and providing just enough cushioning for long-distance comfort. The Lexus RX SUV and Skoda’s Superb also rate highly in this category. Nissan’s Note, Mitsubishi’s Colt and Ford’s Fiesta make up the bottom three – it seems small cars are the ones leaving you with aches and pains.

Manufacturer Verdict (Position: 13th)

The Swedish brand has slipped again. You love the comfort and refinement of its cars, but aren’t so keen on how much they cost to run. The new range of eco-friendly DRIVe models will surely help.

Cam belt tensioner bolt was not tightened properly when built & this came undone, the cam belt let go, and the valves & pistons had a head butting competition! Fortunately Volvo were good enough to swap out the unit even though I had done 96,000 miles by then. The replacement D5 unit does an average of 55mpg on a daily trip to Lincoln & back, so no grumbles here!

I'm very impressed all round. Every time I drive it I feel safe and in control. I love the image as well, there's a hint of pretentiousness but basically it's completely inoffensive and when people discover what I drive there's usually an eyebrow raised rather than the scowl my friends who drive BMW's receive. Long live Volvo!

Excellent. Great performance & economy (almost 50mpg - brilliant for a large car) let down only by an average ride quality and a lousy turning circle. And one of the front headlamp bulbs needs to be replaced by a trained mechanic!

Above average, quality is good, need to shop arround for parts/service. Manufacturer does not design for the 'home mechanic'. 2.4 diesel engine has very good fuel economy - better than expected. Car is smaller than people think.

Probably has too much power for me, and for the chassis (I have the T5 turbo), but I wanted something out of the common run of cars and I have not been disappointed in that.

The most comfortable car I have owned. Ideal for commuting on motorways - better than expected fule economy from the D5 diesel engine - and unrivalled seat comfort.

Very good. The only problem is high labour rates at main dealers so servicing has been very expensive
