Flagship R-DESIGN has fresh paint scheme and racy bodykit

Convertible fans won’t be the only ones to get a Volvo treat at the Frankfurt Motor Show; the firm is set to debut a flagship performance version of its XC60 4x4, too.

Due to arrive by the end of November, the R-DESIGN’s stiffer chassis and tighter damping will produce sportier dynamics without detracting from comfort.

The steering will be faster and more direct, but unchanged ride height means the SUV will retain its off-road capability. Exterior changes include the lower section of the compact SUV being colour-matched to the top, and a sports bodykit with deeper, more aggressive bumpers.

Additional detailing incorporates matte silk finishes to the door mirror housings, plus a rear skid-plate, side sills and twin chrome tailpipes. New 18-inch five-spoke alloys are unique to the R-DESIGN, and for the first time there’s the option of 20-inchers.

Inside, aluminium inserts feature on the steering wheel – which also gets an R-DESIGN emblem – door mouldings and centre console.

Seats come in two colour combinations.

Prices will be announced soon.
