Lexus LS F Sport revealed at the 2017 New York Motor Show

F Sport versions of new Lexus S-Class rival get sportier bodywork, tweaked suspension and racier cabins

Lexus has confirmed that tweaked, sportier versions of its new flagship LS saloon are on the way, with the new Lexus LS F Sport making its debut at the 2017 New York Motor Show.

The LS F Sport models – the designation will be available on both LS 500 and hybrid LS 500h cars – promise to deliver what Lexus says will be “the most engaging LS driving experience yet”, and will take advantage of the car’s new GA-L platform plus a series of tweaks intended to make the big Mercedes S-Class rival sharper and more agile to drive.

Like other 'F Sport' cars in the Lexus range, the two LS F Sports don't recieve any more power - the LS 500 F Sport will still use a 409bhp twin-turbocharged 3.5 V6, and the LS 500 h F Sport will use a 349bhp V6 hybrid. Instead, the cars get tweaked suspension and chassis control technology, alongside sporty styling tweaks.

It'll come with the latest version of the firm's Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management chassis control system, which coordinates the ABS, traction and stablilty control, plus the power steering and four-wheel active steering system. Alongside it, the air suspension setup has been altered for a sportier feel on the road.

The LS F Sport cars cut a more aggressive and sportier look compared to their plush, standard versions with new alloy wheels and more muscular bodywork. At the front it gets a new, more intracate spindle style grille comprised of over 7,000 surfaces. The grille on the standard LS has 5,000.

It's joined by larger side grilles to improve cooling, while the F Sport also comes with unique 20-inch alloy wheels, F Sport badging and two new white and blue paint colour options.

In the cabin, sportier front seats with perforated upholstery are found up front, while score aluminium trim is dotted around the cabin. An F Sport steering wheel is joined by new aluminium pedals and a perforated gear selector, while the instrumentation mimics the 'moving meter' design found in the elusive LFA supercar.

Lexus has not announce how more much the LS F Sport models will cost compared to their standard counterparts, but we could recieve more information when the cars are officially revealed in the metal at the New York Motor Show later this week.
