New Peugeot 208 XY Concept

Peugeot looks to emulate the success of the MINI and Citroen DS3, with new 208 XY Concept showcasing personalisation options

This is the Peugeot 208 XY Concept, which has made its debut alongside the new 208 GTi at the Geneva Motor Show.

Peugeot says it showcases the extensive personalisation options it plans to offer on its new supermini, similar to those seen on the Citroen DS3 and MINI.

The 208 XY is finished in a crimson colour that has been achieved using a new ‘Pulsion’ painting technique that alters colour depending on the viewing distance and angle. Sixteen separate coats of paint and lacquer help to achieve the effect.

Special 18-inch wheels, coloured chrome trim and a three-bar grille help to set the XY apart from a standard 208.

The same amount of attention has been paid to the interior too. There’s crimson stitched leather on the dashboard, armrests and gearlever gait. Peugeot has also added stripes to the grey leather pleated seats and floor mats, while the edges of the panoramic glass roof are now trimmed in black leather.

Underneath the bonnet, the XY uses the 1.6-litre e-HDi engine that will be available in the standard 208 line-up. It produces 115bhp but, more importantly for city drivers, it is road-tax free and exempt from the London Congestion Charge thanks to its 99g/km CO2 emissions figure.

A Peugeot spokesman confirmed that the XY Concept doesn’t preview any particular model but that a few of the luxurious touches and exterior designs on the XY will be available for customers to specify.
