Suzuki Celerio prices revealed

New Suzuki city car will be priced from £7,999 when it goes on sale in February

Prices and specifications for the new Suzuki Celerio city car have been announced. The car goes on sale in February next year, priced from £7,999.

Available in basic SZ3 and better-equipped SZ4 trims, the Suzuki Celerio will offer class leading bootspace, low CO2 emissions and a choice of manual and automatic transmissions.

All Suzuki Celerio models will boast six airbags, air conditioning, alloy wheels, DAB radio and Bluetooth for your mobile phone. USB connectivity, remote central locking and ESP are all standard too.

For an extra £1,000, buyers can upgrade to the range-topping SZ4 specification. This adds more desirable polished alloy wheels, electric rear windows and front fog lamps. Body coloured door mirrors and a chrome grille complete the top-spec tweaks.

Only one engine will be available from launch. The 67bhp 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol unit will return 65.7mpg and emit just 99g/km of CO2. That puts it on a par with some of the most economical cars in its class, including the Skoda Citigo and Citroen C1. However, from next summer a new engine will be available, returning 78.4mpg and CO2 emissions of just 84g/km. Stop-start will also be made standard on this super-frugal model.

An automatic gearbox will also available from summer 2015. Suzuki says owners will benefit from the ease of driving associated with an automatic gearbox, but without the usual increase in CO2 emissions.

Inside Suzuki claims there’s plenty of room for five, thanks to a high roofline and generous interior dimensions. The boot measures 254 litres in size – three litres more than a Volkswagen up! and two litres greater than you’ll find in the Hyundai i10. The 9.4m turning circle should make it easy to navigate around town.

We’ve already driven the Celerio on the international launch, but will be getting behind the wheel in the UK early next month. It goes on sale in February, pried from £7,999.
