Serial winner in this sector – its tally runs in to double figures – has to give second best this time around largely on price. It is still a super effective cleaner that really shifts the grime and is a match for our champion but it can’t match the overall package offered by arch rival Comma.

Super-effective cleaner from US-producer Meguiar’s is one of the few that comes close to matching our champion while being suitable for all types of wheel. The pink gel clings to the wheel for good penetration and requires minimal brushing and rinsing. Not the cheapest but a top performer.

Low price and a big one-litre trigger pack helps the AA earn another award. Like Meguiar’s Hot Rims, this Comma sourced cleaner can be used on all types of wheel including less robust finishes like chrome and unpainted alloy. It works and is hard to beat at this price.
