Leather cleaner

Leather cleaner

Natural materials like leather need special care as they need to be kept supple and moist to avoid cracks and tears. When we put them to the test (here), we wanted a cleaner that could shift stains like oil and ink without damaging the hide plus replace the natural oils in the leather providing a natural barrier against spills.

Winner
Mer Leather Cleaner
Contact: 01992 512698 www.merproducts.com
Price: £7.99
Now under the control of Farécla, Mer is enjoying a new lease of life with some top performing products as the new owners work through the range. This leather was a match for more expensive treatments and quickly dealt with stains on our test seat plus it contains waxes and oils to treat the hide.

Commended
Simoniz Leather Care Cream
Contact: 0161 491 7391 www.holtsauto.com
Price: £3.99
Former champion has to give best to Mer this time around but is the one to go for if you are on a tight budget. Thick cream is easy to use and work in to the leather and proved effective when it came to shifting our test stains. Like our champion it contains the vital oils to condition the hide.

Turtle Wax Platinum Leather Cleaner and Conditioner
Contact: 01695 716610 www.turtlewaxeurope.com
Price: £6.99
Another former champion that can still cut it at the top it too contains glycerine and collagen to keep the leather supple and prevent cracking. The pH balanced cream works best with on a slightly damp surface when cleaning ingrained grime and it made good progress on our ink, chocolate and oil stains.
