Volvo V70 (old)

v70

Overall Average Rating - 85.38%
Position in the Top 100 cars - 31st

WINNER OF CATEGORY - Comfort

Top of the list for comfort is Volvo’s motorway regular, the V70. A favourite with UK traffic police, the Swedish estate’s superbly supportive seats and perfect ergonomics make it the pick of the bunch for long trips. The Volvo’s long-standing rival in this category is Rover’s 75. The British- built model’s sumptuous cabin is still proving to be a pleasant place to spend time. Impressively, Volvo scores a second top five finish with its S40/V50 range, which is just knocked off the podium by Land Rover’s commanding Discovery. Lexus will be concerned to find its old-shape IS in fifth – three places higher than the new version! Ford’s Ka is the least comfortable car in Driver Power 2008. It’s great for city trips, but a chore on longer journeys.

Manufacturer Verdict (Position - 12th)

Got a long journey to make? You need a Volvo – it’s just one place behind Lexus for comfort. However, ownership continues to put a big hole in your pocket, keeping it out of the top 10.
