BMW M4 DTM Champion Edition confirmed for UK

Special edition BMW M4 celebrates success of DTM driver Marco Wittmann

The BMW M4 DTM Champion Edition has been revealed for the UK market, to celebrate Marco Wittman’s success for Team RMG in this season’s DTM German touring car championship.

Based on the BMW M4 GTS, the DTM Champion Edition gets the same water-injected 493bhp 3.0-litre turbocharged straight six, capable of 0-62mph in 3.8 seconds. It removes the standard M4’s electronic limiter, and will do 190mph flat out.

Available exclusively in Alpine White, the M4 DTM mimics the look of a German touring car, thanks to the body stripes, aggressive styling, bumpers and huge boot spoiler. The bonnet, roof, instrument panel support and rear diffuser are all made from carbon fibre, while the tailpipes are crafted from titanium.

The 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels are shod in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres, hiding M carbon-ceramic brakes, while under the skin, all DTMs get adjustable three-way coilover suspension.

Inside, there’s a set of M Carbon bucket seats covered in leather and Alcantara, as well as an M Sport steering wheel with the grey 12 o’clock marker. Just like the M4 GTS, the DTM features a roll cage in place of the standard M4’s rear seats. You’ll also find BMW’s Professional Navigation system, air-con, adaptive LED lights and front and rear parking sensors. It also inherits the GTS’s organic LED tail-lights.

BMW M boss Frank van Meel said: “Never before has one of our edition models been so closely linked to motor racing. We have the pleasure of honouring Marco’s performance by introducing the M4 DTM Championship Edition.”

UK prices are yet to be confirmed, but expect it to rival the limited-run M4 GTS when it appears in dealers next year. That car cost £121,780, though each one quickly sold out – and we expect the DTM to do the same.
