Used Hyundai i20 (Mk2, 2015-2020) review - What should you look out for?

The Hyundai i20 Mk2 has a good reliability record, and some younger examples may still have their original warranty

There haven’t been many reported problems with the Hyundai i20 Mk2, so the key thing you’ll mainly need to look out for is the spec of the car you’re looking at – depending on the features you want, you may need to focus on a certain version or trim level. Reliability concerns are kept down by the car’s impressive record and, depending on the age of the i20 Mk2 example you’re looking at, it may still have some of its original manufacturer warranty cover left.

Warranty

From new, the Hyundai i20 Mk2 came with a five-year warranty, irrespective of the mileage the car had accrued. As a result, even if you opt for a high-mileage i20 Mk2, it may still have some manufacturer cover left depending on its age.

Specification

Other than metallic paint colours, the Hyundai i20 Mk2 didn’t come with many optional features. It’s imperative, then, that you keep a close eye on the car’s trim level if you’re after a specific piece of equipment.

Engines

The Hyundai i20’s 1.4-litre petrol engine was replaced in 2016 with a turbocharged 1.0-litre petrol, and offered with a seven-speed automatic. In our opinion, this is the engine to go for if you’re after a newer used i20 Mk2.

Equipment

Pay close attention to the car’s feature list, as there were small changes made across the i20 Mk2’s production run. For instance, a reversing camera and stop/start technology was added to five-door models in 2018.

Recalls

The i20 Mk2 has a good record when it comes to recall work. In fact, at the time of writing, not a single safety recall campaign has been launched for the Hyundai i20 Mk2.
