The new Hyundai Kona Hybrid crossover will cost from £22,495, the company has confirmed. It goes on sale in September this year.

The hybird crossover mates the brand’s turbocharged 1.6-litre four-cylinder GDi petrol engine with an electric motor, offering claimed economy figures of 66mpg and emissions ratings of 99g/km of CO2.

The new Hyundai Kona’s petrol-hybrid powertrain offers a combined output of 139bhp and 265Nm of torque. It feeds its power to the front wheels via a six-speed dual-clutch transmission, offering a 0–62mph time of 11.2 seconds (or 11.8 seconds with the optional 18-inch wheels) and a top speed of 99mph.

Starting with SE models, all Kona Hybrids come as standard with 16-inch alloy wheels, cloth upholstery and a 10.25-inch infotainment system with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Premium models (£24,295) add wireless smartphone charging , automatic windscreen wipers and front fog lamps, a larger 10.25-inch touch screen and 18-inch wheels.

Top spec Premium SE models (£27,195) also feature LED headlamps, LED rear lamps, heated and ventilated front seats and a head up display.

The Kona Hybrid comes with Hyundai’s SmartSense technology package as standard, which includes front collision warning, lane keeping assist, a driver fatigue warning, high beam assist and avoidance assist with pedestrian and cyclist detection ability. Optional safety kit includes a blind-spot collision warning and rear cross-traffic collision warning.

Buyers can also spec Hyundai’s Intelligent Speed Limit warning and Lane Following Assist systems as optional extras. The former system uses the car’s front camera to identify changes to speed limits and notify the driver, while the latter works with the Kona’s automatic cruise control to keep the car in the centre of the lane with minimal driver input.

Seven paint finishes are available, as well as a unique Blue Lagoon launch colour. The hybrid Kona also gets several interior styling revisions over its all-electric and conventionally powered siblings, with gloss black accents on the door handles and the steering wheel, white accents on the air vents and gear lever and a grey headlining.
