Kia Rio GT Line debuts at Geneva Motor Show

The fourth-generation Kia Rio supermini gains a sporty exterior and kit upgrades for flagship GT Line spec

Kia has revealed a sporty trim level for its latest Rio supermini - called GT Line - at the Geneva Motor Show ahead of a UK launch later this year.

Having launched the Stinger sports saloon back in 2017, Kia is keen to instill some of that car’s appeal into its smaller models. The Rio GT Line is one such example, featuring a revised Stinger-esque front grille, 17-inch alloy wheels and a black boot spoiler.

Power comes from a 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine producing 118bhp and 171Nm of torque through a six-speed manual gearbox. Fuel economy is quoted at 60.1mpg combined, with CO2 emissions of 107g/km. Kia will also offer 1.2 and 1.4-litre petrol engines with the Rio GT Line trim when it launches, along with an optional seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

Kia has equipped autonomous safety features on the Rio GT Line, such as forward collision avoidance with pedestrian recognition, lane departure warning and its new Driver Attention Warning (DAW) system, which detects drowsiness. Lane keep assist also will be made available for customers in the third quarter of 2018.

The GT Line Rio has also been fitted with synthetic black leather upholstery and metallic finishes dotted around the interior. A seven-inch infotainment screen is standard, equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. A rear-view parking camera, heated steering wheel and heated seats can also be specified.

Kia says Rio GT Line sales will begin in Europe from the end of Q1 this year, although the UK on sale date and pricing are yet to be confirmed.
