Uniroyal AllSeasonExpert 2 - All-Season Tyre Test

The Uniroyal’s score in wet handling was disappointing

  • Score: 97.3%
  • Ranking: 8th
  • Price: £101.26

This was always going to be a big ask for the Continental brand, because it was launched back in 2018 and a lot has happened in the all-season sector since.

Two highlights were cabin noise and curved aquaplaning. The former was by a larger margin than usual, making it the clear choice if refinement is a priority for you. The aquaplaning result came out of the blue, because the AllSeasonExpert 2 finished sixth in the straight-line test.

The Uniroyal also failed to live up to the brand’s best-in-the-rain ambition in the other wet tests, topping only the Kleber across the five assessments. It was no white-knuckle ride, though, because it felt super-safe around the handling track. The balance was front limited, with a gentle push as the throttle increased and grip limit approached. This meant a confidence-inspiring stable rear and a generally progressive feel that was unlikely to catch you out.

That soft feel and safe balance were still there in the dry, but the Uniroyal was furthest off the pace here. It was hard to get the Golf stopped from high speed into the tight turns and that was reflected in the braking test, with the Uniroyal needing a concerning nine metres plus to stop than the best. The shortage of grip was there on snow, too, where the rear was more prone to move and slower to recover than the best.

We say:

All-season technology has moved on since the AllSeasonExpert 2 arrived in 2018, so its successor can’t come too soon.

Blackcircles.com says:

Customers have been happy with this tyre, giving it an overall rating of 4.2/5. Reviews often comment on the tyre’s good roadholding and braking performance in snow.
