Sporty new SEAT Ateca FR to cost £24,960

SEAT adds hot FR trim level to Ateca SUV range, while introducing a new 187bhp 2.0-litre TSI petrol

SEAT has confirmed its Ateca SUV in sporty FR guise will cost from £24,960. Sales will begin in July with first customer deliveries due in October.

Also included in the Ateca FR range is a new 187bhp 2.0-litre turbo. It comes exclusively with a DSG automatic gearbox and SEAT's 4Drive all-wheel drive system. SEAT claims it is capable of returning a claimed 40.4mpg and covers 0-62mph in 7.9 seconds. It costs from £29,760.

Other engines in the FR lineup include the entry 148bhp 1.4-litre turbo and a 2.0-litre diesel in two states of tune: a 148bhp and 187bhp versions - both come as standard with four-wheel drive.

The 148bhp diesel (£28,410) comes as standard with a manual gearbox, while the 187bhp version (£30,930) features a DSG auto.

The FR trim cars join an already large Ateca line-up, and SEAT intends for the Ateca FR to sit right underneath range-topping XCELLENCE versions. 18-inch ‘Performance’ style alloy wheels come as standard and 19-inch versions are on the options list. The large, sporty wheels are joined by body coloured wheelarches, replacing the black plastic cladding used on other Atecas, while the side skirts are finished with an aluminium strip.

A new body-coloured rear bumper appears at the back, alongside a rear spoiler also finished in the same hue as the bodywork. Black roof rails, a gloss black front grille, new LED fog lamps and plenty of FR badges complete the look.

Inside, aluminium scuff plates with FR logos are the first things you’ll notice when opening the doors. Sports seats finished in Alcantara come as standard and so do aluminium pedals. A leather sports steering wheel sits in front of the driver, while the entire interior makes use of contrasting red stitching. Again, plenty of FR badges are dotted around the cabin.

The Ateca FR isn’t the hottest version of SEAT’s SUV in the pipeline – a full-fat SEAT Ateca Cupra boasting up to 300bhp is currently being assessed by SEAT bosses and has been spied testing – but it should offer potential customers something a little spicier for the time being.
