Some city cars seek fashion conscious buyers with their funky styling, but the little Suzuki Celerio focuses unashamedly on practicality and cost. It’s not ugly by any means, but there’s not much design flair to speak of and the interior feels cheap compared to city car rivals. However, the arrival of the £140 Road Tax charge has contributed to a rise in running costs.

You can’t argue with the numbers though, and the spec-level isn’t bad either. The Celerio is the cheapest new city car to own in the UK today, but you still get alloy wheels, air-conditioning, Bluetooth and a DAB radio.
