Prices and specifications for the new Jeep Cherokee have been released, with the new mid-size SUV set to arrive here in the UK this June.

As we reported earlier this month, the range starts at £25,495 for the front-wheel drive 2.0 Longitude 140 featuring 6-speed manual transmission, rising to £35,695 for the 2.0 Limited 170 with 9-speed automatic and four-wheel drive.

This places it into direct competition with volume manufacturers like the Nissan Qashqai and VW Tiguan, while also entering into the premium territory of the BMW X3. Two 2.0 litre Multijet 2 diesels engines will be available, with power outputs of 140bhp and 170bhp, along with three trim options: Longitude, Longitude Plus and Limited. Jeep has also confirmed the range will expand later in the year to include a 3.2-litre V6 petrol Trailhawk model. This will feature unique styling and offer enhanced off-road capability courtesy of Jeep’s Active Drive Lock and suspension lift systems. Standard equipment for entry-level Longitude models (£25,495) will include body-coloured mirrors, LED rear lights, 17-inch alloys, dual-zone climate control, Bluetooth capability, DAB radio, rear parking sensors and a leather-trimmed steering wheel. Spending an extra £2,200 on the Longitude Plus package adds a fully configurable Uconnect media centre with 8.4-inch touch screen, satellite navigation, Bluetooth voice recognition for the, and an Alpine stereo with nine speakers and sub-woofer. Limited trim (£31,195) tops the range at launch, adding BiXenon headlights, power tailgate, 18-inch alloys, Nappa Leather trimmed seats with eight-way electric adjustment for the drivers, front and rear parking sensors, rear parking camera, auto lights and wipers, a Wireless Phone Charging pad and keyless entry and drive.

Jeep will be hoping that the distinctive styling, improved quality, high levels of standard equipment and a five-star Euro NCAP rating will improve the fortunes of its mid-sized SUV, which struggled to make much of an impression when it was launched in 2007.
