New MINI facelift revealed with updated look and added tech

The MINI range has been revised for 2021, with the hatch, Convertible and Electric models all getting a range of styling tweaks

MINI has freshened up its core model range by introducing a facelift for its hatch, Convertible and Electric models. They all benefit from a new look and technology updates, while prices start from £16,045.

The most obvious change is at the front, where MINI has increased the size of the grille, added a body-coloured strip and new black surround. Air inlets have also replaced spot lamps in the lower section of the front bumper, while the inside of the headlights is now finished in black rather than chrome. Three new exterior finishes, Rooftop Grey, Island Blue and Zesty Yellow are also available.

Updates inside amount to a new 8.8-inch colour touchscreen display on the centre console, and as with the exterior much of the chrome detailing has been replaced with black trim for a sportier look. A new sports steering wheel and a five-inch digital instrument cluster now come as standard across the entire line-up, too.

New options include Adaptive Suspension, which is available for the first time on a MINI. The system constantly monitors and adjusts the car’s suspension through the use of continuous frequency-selective damping. MINI says it “redefines the brand’s hallmark go-kart feeling”.

The engine line-up starts with a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol with 102bhp in the MINI One or 136bhp in the Cooper. A larger 2.0-litre four-cylinder is also offered, with 178bhp in the Cooper S, while the 234bhp version is exclusive to the hot John Cooper Works models.

The MINI Electric retains its 32.6kWh battery and 184bhp electric motor that gives it a 145-mile range and a 0-62mph time of 7.3 seconds. As before, all models can be upgraded with Classic, Sport or Exclusive trim packs.
