Glass cleaners mini test

We test a pair of glass cleaners on a mucky windscreen to see which will reign supreme

Glass cleaners are essential for getting rid of dirt that your wiper jets can’t shift. Spray-on formulas need only a quick rub to remove muck, plus they can eliminate fingerprints in the cabin.

Meguiar’s has replaced its NXT Generation formula with the new Perfect Clarity Glass Cleaner. So we put it head-to-head with our previous test winner from Comma.

Each product was sprayed on to a screen covered with bugs and wiper marks, and we assessed performance on how much they cleaned in one squirt. We then went inside to shift sat-nav suction-cup marks and sticky residue from a car park pass.

The quality of the finish was noted, and we looked for any smearing. In the cabin, fragrance was a factor – we didn’t want a strong, overpowering chemical smell. Finally, we compared the pack sizes and factored value for money into our verdict.

Comma still reigns supreme – its Glass Cleaner is easy to use and top value. Perfect Clarity is an effective cleaner, but takes more effort to apply, plus Meguiar’s needs to get the price down.
