Bespoke McLaren P1 gets Pebble Beach debut

McLaren’s Special Operations division returns to Pebble Beach with bespoke P1 and 650S Spider

McLaren Special Operations launched at Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance back in 2011, so it seems only fitting the personalisation service should return to the famous golf course to unveil two of its latest projects.

Sure to steal the headlines is the unique take on the Woking brand’s P1 hypercar. Commissioned by an unnamed North American customer, it features a number of one-off features, such as an exclusive metallic Sterling Grey paint scheme, highlighted throughout by McLaren Orange accents.

At the rear, the 904bhp, 217mph flagship also gains 24 carat gold heatshields around the engine bay and exhaust. Contrasting with the dark body colour and Satin Nickel-finished Stealth Pack, this is not merely a stylistic addition – McLaren’s current Formula 1 cars also exploit its reflective and heat resilient properties.

Further tailored additions are evident inside the cabin in the form of carbon fibre and Alcantara. The lightweight carbon shell racing seats feature four-point harnesses, and there’s Stone Grey binding and stitching for all the upholstery. McLaren Orange appears once again on the centre console, whilst Satin-Nickel can be found on the airvents to echo the exhaust design.

MSO will also take the opportunity to showcase a one-off 650S Spider at Pebble Beach. Designed with help from McLaren’s design director Frank Stephenson and based on the MSO 650S, the roadster is one of 50 specially customised models, and features styling upgrades such as satin-finished carbon fibre.

This particular McLaren is finished in Cerulean Blue, and gains chrome detailing for the exhaust and 10-spoke lightweight alloys.

Inside, there’s carbon black leather, contrasted by blue stitching, which makes its way onto the seats, steering wheel, dash and doors. Completing the look are MSO-branded carbon fibre door sill panels, McLaren speedmark-embroidered headrests and a dedication plaque signed by Frank Stephenson.
