Citroen C1 2014: price, specs and on sale date

The 2014 Citroen C1 goes on sale in July after making its debut at the Geneva Motor Show

Citroen has announced the new C1 will be priced from £8,245 when it arrives in showrooms in July. Three trim levels, two engine options and a new Airscape version with a retractable fabric roof are available on the new French city car.

Trim options are made up of Touch, Feel and Flair, with the range kicking off with the C1 Touch VTi 68 manual three-door (£8,245). Entry-level Touch trim features kit such as ABS, remote central locking, electric front windows, six airbags, MP3 compatibility, ESP, a USB socket and LED daytime running lights.

Mid-range Feel (£9,495) adds air conditioning, DAB digital radio, seven-inch Touch Drive interface, steering mounted controls, along with body coloured door mirrors and door handles. Range-topping Flair (£10,185) features all of that, plus sports 15-inch alloy wheels, reversing camera, electrically heated and adjustable door mirrors, a leather steering wheel and dark tinted rear windows.

Optional extras include automatic air conditioning, automatic headlights, keyless entry and start, plus various interior colour packs. The new Airscape model adds £850 to the price tag but is only available in Feel and Flair trim levels. The fabric roof is offered in three colours, black, grey and sunrise red.

Power is provided by two latest-generation petrol engines, a 68bhp or 82bhp 1.0-litre VTi motor, available with a five-speed manual gearbox. The former is also offered with a five-speed clutchless Efficient Tronic Gearbox (ETG).

Citroen C1 2014: styling

The bold new Citroen C1 was revealed at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show.

As before, it’s based on the same underpinnings, and built in the same factory, as sister city cars from Peugeot and Toyota. Distinctive styling will set the models apart, and the Citroen looks to be braver in its design than the new Peugeot 108 but not quite as bold as the X-fronted Toyota Aygo – both of which also appeared at Geneva.

The Citroen C1 borrows upright LED running lamps from the DS3, narrow lights from the C4 Cactus and big, round headlamps that look similar to those on the Nissan Juke.

The C1 will be available as a three or five-door, or as a new Airscape model with a peel-back roof – with the soft-top coming in red, black or grey. Fixed-roof cars will be offered in a choice of eight paint finishes, with a contrasting roof option.

The newcomer is only a fraction longer than the car it replaces, at 3.46 metres long, but Citroen is saying it has space for four adults and a 196-litre boot – that’s 57 litres more than the old car.

The newcomer is also lighter than many of its rivals, tipping the scales at 840kg. When powered by the 82bhp 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine, it can go from 0-60mph in 11 seconds and return 60mpg. There’s a 68bhp engine, too, plus an optional five-speed auto box.

A range of new technology includes a seven-inch touchscreen, featuring Mirror Screen. This essentially allows drivers to control certain smartphone apps through the car, rather than their mobile. Heated seats, keyless go and a reversing camera will also be available.
