New 2023 Ford GT Mk IV is the ultimate track-only GT model

Ford’s swan-song to the GT supercar is an ultra-limited homage to the GT’s racing history

Perhaps no other car has been romanticised as much as the Ford GT with the name synonymous with Le Mans greatness. Now there’s a new track-only model for a select few to channel their inner Ken Miles.

Named the ‘Ford GT Mk IV’ in honour of the car of the same name that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1967, there will only be 67 units of the track-only, hand-built special edition and each will cost from $1.7m (roughly £1.38m). Deliveries of the GT Mk IV will begin in Spring 2023, shortly after Ford confirms “client selections”.

The current Ford GT made its own mark on Le Mans, having won the LM GTE-Pro class in 2016. The standard car’s 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 produces 638bhp and 747Nm of torque, but for this track special model Ford claims it’ll offer “more than 800 horsepower.”

That’s not all for performance modifications, as the “most extreme final version of the Ford GT” as Ford calls it also gets a race-spec transmission and adaptive suspension developed by Multimatic.

Ford Performance has overseen the project and Mark Rushbrooke, global director of Ford’s Performance Motorsports division claims the Mk IV comes “with an even higher-level of motorsport engineering and performance, plus a completely new carbon fibre body that is functional and striking, the Mk IV is the ultimate sendoff of the third-generation supercar.”

That carbon-fibre body sees an aggressive front splitter, huge rear wing, roof-mounted air intake and vented bonnet all help to contribute extra downforce. There’s even a longer wheelbase which Ford says improves handling further.

The Mk IV might well be the last in the line of special edition Ford GTs, with the recently unveiled LM Edition confirmed as a bespoke run-out special for the road.
