54-reg Diesel, Owner for 1 to 3 years

Nice reliable car. Nothing to jump up and down about it, but I'm very pleased with it overall. You know it will take you to destination. Drove around west Europe with it and never had a problem. Nearly 100 000 miles on the clock and passing service and MOT with no complains. Of course some interior plastic bits broke, but just because of missusage of a previous owner. Only one problem I had is EGR valve, which for those models often cause problems. But after searching internet for a while its easy fix once you know what the problem is, the valve getting stuck and stop working properly, you losing power from time to time (clean it with WD40 and problem is solved). In case you want to replace it, the price is £270. Otherwise Toyota stands for their word... reliability and in my taste its very nice looking car. People often say, thats a posh car you got there.

The Avensis has been a very reliable and practical car. The fuel economy has been slightly better than the manufactures figure. The car has been using a little oil after 40,000 miles driven. Now approx 1 pint /1000 miles. The only problem encountered was a failed gearbox bearing which was rectified for £550 at the local gearbox specialist. This was the first and only problem with the car and occured two years ago with 65,000 miles driven Now driven 82,000 miles.Would buy again

Had it for the wife for over five years and has never missed a beat or caused any problems, headlights were replaced due to fogging, foc outside of warranty as recognised as a fault..dealers great, only downside is handling a tad too soft for me nut safe as houses, last mot at 52,000 was a total clean bill of health. As now retired our mileage is more shorter journeys, on a journey of 50 miles plus we ave 36-38 which is great for an auto.

07-reg Diesel, Owner for 1 to 3 years

Bought the estate - Tourer - as a workhorse. Has done this job well but is far from an exciting purchase. Gave good value for money in terms of spec but resale values nowhere near what, say, a VW Passat of the same age would be. Has started to show some faults after 40K miles but these are trim breakages / creaks and groans rather than anything serious. Reliability is sound and external appearance wearing well.

I like the shape and the interior design not so happy with the positon of the electronic handbrake switch its a bit awkward to reach but it releases itself as you pull away. The diesel engine is strong and clean with excellent fuel economy and only £120 tax per year. The rear seat space is large and the sound system is great. With Toyota reliability and sound build I am very happy with the new Avensis

2011-reg Petrol, Owner for 1 to 3 years

I have not had any problems. it is extremely reliable. note: the car I had before the one I have now was also the same make and model and I had that for 7 years, passed it onto my daughter who has had it for almost two years and we have never experienced any issues, not even small ones. I only take it for a service once per year. I have incurred no other cost than this other than petrol.

2001-reg Petrol, Owner for more than 5 years

No major problems even at 11 years old-also very comfortable and original tyres were changed at 42,000 miles with still some legal wear in them. As above average 42 mpg-insurance usually about ł250pa fully comprehensive-club toyota gives full breakdown cover with the aa and costs ł65pa. Gives me all the perforance I need or want-very good when overtaking as accelerates very quickly.

Brilliant engineering and completely trouble free motoring mile after mile. However disappointed with the designs from Toyota's ED2 studio, with honorable exception of IQ. Maybe it was the brief they had from HQ.

Maybe Honda Accord Estate or Audi Q5 if we fancy a change, although will be sad to change from Toyota Avensis - like an old reliable friend but just a little too boring.

Reliability: 5/5 Build Quality: 5/5
2008-reg Petrol, Owner for 3 to 5 years

No problems experienced. - any modifications or rectifications are made and carried out promptly by main dealer. Fuel consumption for a petrol driven is very good. - the main dealer does have schemes in place to reward loyalty customers, but I still think some parts are unnecessarily expensive. however this is general throughout the motor trade and not just relevant to toyota.

Reliability: 5/5 Build Quality: 5/5
2009-reg Petrol, Owner for less than a year

3rd toyota I have owned. proved very relaible. Mpg was rated as 41-44 mixedbur I can only get this on motorway runs at steady speed. average is lower to mid 30's. spares are probably expensive but as its reliable probably won't have to buy them very often. franchised dealer servicing seems pricey. got 40,000 service coming up and expect to pay ł400! ouch!

Reliability: 5/5 Build Quality: 5/5
2003-reg Petrol, Owner for more than 5 years

It has never let me down in 8 years. the toyota reputation for reliability was one of the reasons I bought it. To keep costs down I use an independent garage.far cheaper than my local toyota dealership .I think myself lucky to have found such an excellent service team . fuel consumption is why I will regretfully eventually change the car.

X-reg Petrol, Owner for More than 5 years

Real proplem with engine - has done 95,000 miles and is using a lot of oil - at least half a ltre for every tank of fuel. Not what I expected of Toyota! (I understand this`is a problem with VVT engines.)

Also lots of small faults - e.g. steering rack replaced, 2 manifold sensors replaced, roof lining & and door seals loose.

Reliability: 2/5 Build Quality: 2/5
2011-reg Petrol, Owner for less than a year

This is my 5th avensis and I have never been let down regardless of the time of year. I also have them regularly serviced at main franchised dealers. Fuel and insurance costs also road tax are by far the greatest costs of motoring. so, having a reliable car can help keep the costs down.

Reliability: 5/5 Build Quality: 5/5
2011-reg Petrol, Owner for 1 to 3 years

In the2 years I have had it ,it hasn't missed a beat, refused to start, or required any parts or attention other than routine servicing.it is proving to be very comfortable and extremely reliable. Nothing required apart from fuel and routine servicing.

2012-reg Diesel, Owner for less than a year

Never had a problem so far, or on previous model of same in +5 years, 55k miles. Based on few months of new model and +5years of previous model, running costs were much lower than expected and lowest of any car owned over 40 years.

The only real problem we have had is the failure of the front head lamps due to heat causing the main headlamp bulb to colllapse. Other than the head lamps, we have had new tyres all round and a new rear section to the exhaust.

The engine warning light came on. The diagnosis was to replace the glow plugs (£200). One of them broke, necessitating removal of the cylinder head to retireve the broken piece. Bill £600. I will never buy another Toyota.

As yet, have not had car long enough to tell, but they are reported as been very reliable. Biggest cost is the outrageous price of fuel, parts can be costly, though aftermarket parts are reasonable.

Reliability: 5/5 Build Quality: 5/5
2005-reg Diesel, Owner for 1 to 3 years

Up to now I haven't had any problems, maybe some are due I don't know but I love it. It's only the price of diesel that makes it really expensive, the tax could do with being a tad lower.

Reliability: 5/5 Build Quality: 5/5

I have had three avensis cars and only had a problem with one which was fixed under warranty. I do a lot of towing and average about 32 mpg when towing but nearly 50mpg when not towing.

Reliability is the main reason we have been buying toyotas for 25 years. We are disappointed with the running costs of this car. it must be one of the worst performers in this respect.

Reliability: 4/5 Build Quality: 4/5
59-reg Diesel, Owner for Less than a year

Pretty good car, easy to live with. Main gripes are the unsupportive front seats (for a tall, heavy driver) and some instances of less than satisfactory build quality in the interior.

58-reg Petrol, Owner for 1 to 3 years

I like it, my first car back in UK after 30 years overseas.
It is not very exciting, but it is solid and reliable.
For next car I want something with better economy/CO2 emissions.

No reliability problems exp from day 1. very reliable well maintained through main dealer garage. Reasonable mileage output, unfortunately cannot control the costs of fuel prices.

Reliability: 5/5 Build Quality: 5/5
2009-reg Diesel, Owner for 1 to 3 years

Totally reliable only goes into a garage for service. Fuel consumption excellent for 2.2 deisel. service cost very reasonable.only repair to date was fixed price rear brake pads.

Reliability: 5/5 Build Quality: 5/5
2008-reg Diesel, Owner for 3 to 5 years

I have had no issues with the reliability. As the majority of running is in town the fuel consumption is good, service at a private garage every 10,000 miles is cost effective.

Reliability: 4/5 Build Quality: 4/5
2004-reg Diesel, Owner for more than 5 years

Engine management computer replaced at 4 years. other than that no major faults apart from those parts replaced during toyota recalls. Heavy wear on front tyres - 15k miles.

Reliability: 4/5 Build Quality: 4/5
2006-reg Diesel, Owner for 3 to 5 years

Reliability: 5/5 Build Quality: 5/5
58-reg Diesel, Owner for 1 to 3 years

Reliable and smooth to drive the engine suffers from turbo lag which can make it seem laboured when accelerating. The chassis and suspension are really good for handling

Reliability: 5/5 Build Quality: 5/5
56-reg Diesel, Owner for 3 to 5 years

Largely reliable after specific faults with EGR valve and diesel injectors were diagnosed and solved.
Otherwise, car has been an extremely good, economical all-rounder

Reliability: 5/5 Build Quality: 5/5
