New Volkswagen Golf vs rivals

We pit the Mk7 Volkswagen Golf against its premium rivals, the Audi A3, BMW 1 Series and Mercedes A-Class

how is it fair to compare a 2.0 150hp Golf to the 1.5 109hp A-Class?

Daftest advert ever? Police to ban secret gig. Makes me laugh . (If they don't know, how can they ban it?)

It's a £22,000 budget. The question asked is what's the best German Diesel Hatch for this price.

For around 22,000 you could get an Audi A3 Sportback 1.6TDI in SE spec or a 2.0TDI sport 3door which would've been a fairer comparison. A 5 door 118D is also around the 22k mark.

Also, saying the A3 looks like the old car when its sitting beside the same-but-fuglier 1 series and the are-you-sure-this-is-the-new-one Golf is ridiculous.

Finally... the merc is the most desirable?! HAHAHAHAHA!

Yes Golf always wins! No matter A3 sportback is as large as Golf with the same price, better quality and better badge.

The golf is a box on wheels which is a complete bore to look at. The BMW reminds me that a ford sierra saphire 2.0 was better to drive for the money a BMW costs. The Audi interior doesn't tell me much about the drive which I believe maybe slightly sluggish depending on the engine you choose. The Mercedes looks too ugly to buy and not worth the money.

They're looking at what you can get for £22,000. So, for this Merc, which has the same Renault engine that's put in a Dacia (costing £9,000), Merc are asking you to pay the same amount as VW are asking for a 150bhp Golf!! If ever there was cast iron proof that Mercedes are horrendously over priced and that anyone who buys one is being totally ripped off, then this is it. Then take a look at the Merc's cheap plastic interior....

What do you mean better badge?... what exactly does that mean? Look at the product, not the label.

If everyone is as rational as you and neglect the tremendous efforts of badge engineering by VW, VW can close down Audi and VW badges, and sell skoda only.

But what I say is rational - it is an entirely sensible approach. With anything you buy - even if it's not a car, for example it could be clothes, you should always compare the products and buy the best - buy the product that you prefer, the one that you are most comfortable with - regardless of the label, badge or image, regardless of other people's views. The quicker you realise this lixunhuan, the better your money will be spent, and ultimately, the happier you will be. Eg Why buy a Merc, if the equivalent VW is better? Merc are selling an "image", but that's all it is. It is an illusion. It is your car - you have to drive it... it is your money. Please, try to realise this.

You sound luck a happy-go-lucky kinda guy...
