A ubiquitous presence in the outside lane of the motorway. The BMW 3-Series is a superb all-rounder with rock-solid build quality. That’s great news for used buyers, as dealer forecourts are awash with tidy 10-year-old examples of the excellent 318i models. Diesel versions in this price bracket are liable to have high mileage.
