World cup shoot-out!

February 2010

We bring together models from across eight sectors, with the champs in each group going through to the knock-out stages – before we decide our winner
WELCOME to a road test with a difference! When we decided to find the best family car on sale, we took our inspiration from the football field. As 2010 is a World Cup year, all eyes will be on South Africa this summer – but we beat the hype with a knock-out tournament of our own.

Like the real thing, we start with the group stages. Here, 43 cars from across eight different sectors of the market come together, with everything from supermini estates to family hatchbacks in the mix. Our group winners then enter a draw to decide the quarter final matches, before we narrow them down to four semi finalists and, eventually, two finalists.

Would our winner be a traditional superpower from the ranks of family cars or compact estates, or would it come from one of the rising stars in the family car game? There’s only one way to find out – so take your seats and settle back for our biggest road test of the year...

DAS AUTO..... FIESTA

So where in this huge list is Britain's best selling car, the Ford Fiesta? Oh it's not German, my apologies

By Focus_your_mind on 20 February, 2010, 9:56am

cos the fiesta falls to bits the plastic inside is rubbish and you can see huge costing cutting everywhere and it's way over priced - thats why.

I,ve had a fiesta from new, it's a great little car, never had any problems with it, very good quality throughout,
you sure your talking about a Fiesta, Berelli and not a Fiat !!

My Fiat Marea Weekend is excellent it has 176,000 on the clock, hardly a thing with it. All it's had is 1 gearbox, 2 drive shafts,1 master cylinder,2 clutches, 4 sets of wheel bearings and an engine re-build - so it's been a very good reliable car!!!!

By Berelli on 4 March, 2010, 5:57pm

well the main reason why the fiesta didn't feature, is because it's only a supermini and all the others are larger adaptations of supeminis (mini MPV's eg. Honda Jazz or estate versions of cars of the fiesta's size) or they are bigger cars from a different segment.
So "Focus_your_mind" does that answer your question!
