New Ferrari SP-8 is the latest one-off you can’t buy

Feast your eyes on this bold Ferrari - created for just one special customer

Ferrari has quite the history of making bespoke cars for its favourite ‘clients’ and the latest one to roll out of its ‘One-Off series’ is this, the SP-8.

The SP-8 name comes as part of Ferrari’s Special Projects programme, with the ‘8’ being considered lucky in Chinese culture (the customer is from Taiwan). As for the base of the SP-8, it uses the same platform, chassis and engine as the F8 Spider, rather than the newer 296 GTB

That means there’s a 3.9-litre, twin-turbocharged V8 in the middle of that carefully crafted bodywork. While Ferrari hasn’t revealed if it tweaked the powertrain especially for the SP-8, we imagine the F8 Spider’s 711bhp and 770Nm of torque would feel suitably powerful.

While the SP-8 is obviously heavily revised from the F8 Spider, the most significant change is the complete lack of a roof. There are changes in the body panels from the new front bumper, side surfacing and rear bumper – along with the engine cover have been aerodynamically optimised in a wind tunnel.

The headlights are also a new design, and rear lights have been influenced by the Roma. Ferrari says the specially designed five-spoke wheels are a modern take on the F40’s wheels and are finished in a new matte grey colour. The exterior paint finish is a two-tone effect with a matte grey finish at the rear and a carbon-fibre section to the front.

Inside, the centre console has been reshaped with a new gear selector with toggles from the SF90, rather than the buttons the F8 used. The bucket seats are upholstered in navy blue Alcantara and yellow detailing around the edge and across the dash.

The SP-8 is present at the Finali Mondiali Ferrari at Mugello Circuit – which is a celebration of Ferrari’s motorsport clients. It will then be on display at the Ferrari Museum in Maranello.
