Porsche reveals limited-run 911 Edition 50Y Porsche Design

Built to celebrate 50 years of Porsche Design, the Targa GTS-based special edition is limited to 750 cars, at £144,360 apiece

Porsche has revealed a new limited-run 911 Targa GTS, designed to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the marque’s lifestyle arm, Porsche Design. Called the 911 Edition 50Y Porsche Design, just 750 cars will be built, and UK prices start from £144,360.

The colour scheme of the special-edition car commemorates the Chronograph I wristwatch of 1972, and Porsche is releasing a limited-edition version of the timepiece alongside the new model. The 911 Edition 50Y is painted black, and features centre-lock alloy wheels finished in satin grey.

Like all 911 GTS models, the car is equipped with Porsche’s SportDesign bodykit, which includes a more aggressive front bumper and a redesigned rear end, with the number plate mounted higher than usual. The dark theme continues with black brake calipers, along with grey ‘Porsche Design’ decals along the side of the car.

The darker-grey rollover hoop of the Targa GTS remains, and the Edition 50Y gets a Porsche Design 50th anniversary badge on the rear deck lid.

Inside, the special edition gets black leather upholstery with Porsche’s retro Sport-Tex trim on the seats, and a bespoke clock, as part of the standard Sport Chrono Package. A grey sunburst dial, a red second hand and a Porsche design logo distinguish it from the standard item.

The Edition 50Y is fitted with a twin-turbocharged flat-six motor producing 473bhp. This drives through an eight-speed PDK gearbox, and launches the car from 0-62mph in 3.5 seconds. Top speed is 191mph, and customers will be invited to explore this performance potential at Porsche’s Experience Centre at Silverstone.

The 911 Edition 50Y Porsche Design is on sale now for delivery in April, priced from £144,360.
