Bill Gwynne Rally School

Price: £255 (full day) Drive time: 47 minutes

This was a bit of a mixed bag. On the upside, we were back in rear-wheel-drive Ford Escorts and, as with the Phil Price Rally School, had the chance to go sideways. The lively briefing was also one of the most enjoyable of our 10 tests. Less impressive was the amount of hanging around, as with only one car on the stage at any time and five people on the course, the wait between runs was far too long. The session began with a passenger run before getting the chance to drive. And the stage could have been better, too. It was tight, restrictive and quickly learned, as the layout wasn’t changed between laps. However, you could explore car control in safety, and the whole day had a welcoming feel to it.
