BMW CSL Hommage R concept unveiled at Pebble Beach

BMW reveals striking new 'R' version of Hommage concept in iconic colour scheme at Monterey Car Week

BMW is hoping to steal all the limelight at this year's Pebble Beach and Monterey Car Week. Not only have we seen the hardcore new M4 GTS, but there was also a new version of the stunning BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage with iconic motorsport livery.

Dubbed the 'Hommage R', the new car celebrates both the 40th anniversary of BMW in North America and the racing success of the original CSL in 1975. The carbon-fibre body of the earlier Hommage concept shown at the Villa d’Este show in Italy, it is now decked out in the same BMW motorsport livery as the original BMW 3.0 CSL race car.

The design of the Hommage R has been heavily influenced by aerodynamics, but retains enough classic styling cues from the legendary racer with which it shares a name. BMW’s trademark kidney grille dominates the bold front end, and adopts the more upright styling from BMWs of old.

The traditional wing mirrors have been replaced by cameras, and laser headlmap technology also debuts on the concept. It is one of the lowest cars BMW has ever produced with the front splitter hugging the ground to ensure maximum visual impact.

The interior is also stripped-out and minimalist in-keeping with the lightweight ethos, and perhaps the most striking items are the outrageously angular sports seats trimmed in the same livery as the exterior.

Of course, like the previous CSL Hommage, this has been built as a show platform for both past heritage and future innovation. It's unlikely to make production in this form, but tech from this car could be seen in BMW models of the near-future.
