Owner BMW’s EfficientDynamics technology has always kept running costs down on the MINI. But bosses aren’t resting on their eco-friendly laurels, and a round of updates has boosted the baby Brit’s already impressive economy.
As a result, even the scorching Cooper S returns a diesel-rivalling 56.5mpg. But the star of the range is the Cooper D oil-burner. Its 110bhp engine manages 74.3mpg and emits 99g/km of CO2 – both identical to the less powerful One D.
Yet this MINI retains the driver appeal that has made the line-up such a hit. Going green shouldn’t be this much fun.
