Ford Galaxy (old)

Full-sized MPVs have lost out in recent years as buyers turn to SUVs and smaller compact people carriers. Yet Ford'Â’s Galaxy has remained evergreen, only recently being replaced. Given its popularity, bosses will be disappointed with the outgoing car'Â’s poor ratings. Wayward handling and shoddy build are your main gripes, while the seven-seater fails to make it into the top 20 for practicality. The new Galaxy is a big step forward, but will it be easier to live with? We'Â’ll find out in next year'Â’s survey.

Your Quotes

“Excellent practicality, but let down by reliability and electrical issues. I've had problems with the locks, tailgate, electric windows air-con and sunroof.”

Mr Tim McCarthy - Hampshire

“I love it - otherwise I would have changed it by now. It is flexible, comfortable, reliable and has everything I need.”

David Welford - Herefordshire

“Great car, hard to get maintained when things go wrong.”

Mr Mike Hinson - Hants

“A good all-round family car. The new model has better seating. An excellent VW diesel engine. Sits comfortably on the motorway but also happy pottering around town.”

Mr David Hardisty - Herts

“It's a good car that meets the needs of our family. My wife loves it.”

Mr Tom Moloney - Greenford

“Perfect for what I use it for.”

Mr Craig Suckling - Bucks

MANUFACTURER VERDICT

A credible rise of four places has let Ford break into the top 20. Given its position in the sales charts, this is hardly anything to write home about, but at least it is going in the right direction. The firmÂ’'s worst rating comes for the comfort of its cabins. You tell us finding the best driving position is a real pain in the back. But the blue oval has finished a full eight places ahead of arch-rival Vauxhall.
