Elusive problem was dud-fuel lift-pump which was diagnosable on original failure but remedy delayed by VW's insistence in driving the diagnostic process from on high and not trusting the dealer's judgment (and mine) that it was the fuel pump.”

“My car is a Golf GTi 200 DSG. The DSG gearbox is fantastic and perfect for a combination of city, motorway and B-road driving. As a pure GTI, it’s a bit too refined to be honest, I think it’s typical of cars these days that are so well built, that it’s not so much a sports car as a fast luxury hatchback. The dealer was genuinely concerned and provided a hire car free of charge, but it took three weeks to obtain the part from Germany. Rather a disappointing start which does not inspire confidence in what is otherwise an excellent car.”
