The Aventador is ready to charge! Auto Express was first to grab the bull by the horns and see whether Lamborghini’s new V12 flagship can live up to the firm’s reputation for insanity.
On paper the signs are ominous. The Aventador is first production Lamborghini to be built around a carbon-fibre monocoque, it contains a brand-new 691bhp V12 engine, F1-style push rod suspension and a robotised manual gearbox capable of swapping cogs in just 50ms.

"In Strada and Sport settings, the gear changes up or down are smooth enough, but in Corsa we’d recommend only shifting at extremely high revs." Like any of readers are going to buy it :) You could give more advices - how to set the most comfy seating possition, how to put more stuff in the boot, etc. etc.
I suspect this will still be like all previous Lamborghinis other than perhaps the Espada and 400GT, where at the end of a three to four hour journey, you will get out sweaty, trembling, deaf, back aching and totally relieved that the journey is over. This puts a severe limitation on the attraction of the car. At the end of a similar journey in a Bugatti Veyron, you would be as fresh as a daisy. At lower price points, a Porsche 911 Turbo S or a Jaguar XKR-S would give you 95% plus of the enjoyment of the Aventador but without the pain. I am afraid that this is a car to show off in, not a serious tool.
I also suspect that under the stunning exterior, there will be a considerable number of engineering "hoolies". Just ask a Lambo mechanic about changing a Gallardo oil filter. Stand back and put your fingers in your ears. I was looking at a four year old Gallardo up on axle stands a few weeks ago. I was amazed at the amount of corrosion in various places due to poor paint protection and unplated fixings.

Funny to see how VAG enabled Lambo to become more Lambo than could have been if it was on its own. Except for crummy technology perhaps. So, it's a Best of both worlds. German engineering and Italian design and performance.
Something unexpected surprise

Wilson, dont know about a 'show-off' car, but my goodness dont you see a car in totality when you get to see the underside.
I'm still undecided on whether this is a 'balanced, freshly-styled, original, good-looking' design. From certain angles it is, others (I feel) not entirely. Maybe overkill on the hexagonal theme. Still it's a Lamborghini - and I'd probably have one (lol). I think the 'black' colour looked the best - very stealthy and macho. Put my order in...and I'll take the 'girl' too (lol).
I have to disagree with you wilson on your comments about the aventadors usefulness. It seems to me that lambo have put a lot of time and effort into the interior, driver comfort etc. Sure jags and porsche will give you some of the same thrill to a degree, but like any car, its how hard you drive it. As for the mechanics etc all car makers are guilty of garage only mechanics, trust me i'm in the motor trade! At the end of the day
it's a machine of beauty, like the ladies on the stand and in the vido's.
This car is m,ore beautiful than any other car created. It has an evil raging bull look about. It could charge at any moment!!!

I can see why this car has 4wd, with the wet pommy weather your would need to use traction control almost all the time.. I think If i drove this car, i would feel wet inside it as well as I try to squeeze this monster through the tight, potholed English lane ways. All the shaking would surely upset my bladder and we would have rain on the inside as well..At least in Australia, if the same were to happen, our Aussie sun would dry things up in a jiffy, and with all that leather, there would be no stains!
First thing first, the Aventador is as explosively fast, loud and jaw-dropping to look at as we’d all hoped. In other words it has all the bedroom poster appeal of its predecessors. But while the mid-mounted V12 and four-wheel drive formula is tried and tested this car is right at the pinnacle of supercar technology. Masses of carbon-fibre and aluminium make it lighter than its rivals, while F1 push rod suspension, carbon-ceramic brakes and the lighting fast ISR gearbox make it hugely capable at high speeds. Interestingly though, in its softest setting it’s a much less intimidating machine than the Murcielago and could therefore be driven more often, which for a car as thrilling as this, is good news.
