Massive discounts are available on discontinued delivery mileage models. How about £10,000 off an Alfa? Or £6,000 off a Vauxhall?
Do you long for that feeling of owning a car from new, but know your budget will only stretch to something used?

Well, don’t despair, as massive discounts are available on discontinued delivery mileage models. How about £10,000 off an Alfa? Or £6,000 off a Vauxhall?

The trick to getting a new vehicle for used car money is to opt for something which is no longer officially on sale. We searched all over Britain, and found the following examples, each of which had done less then 100 miles. And remember, as with any car purchase, the price quoted should always be the starting point for some determined bargaining. The seller realises he or she has no chance of achieving the model’s list price, and simply wants rid of it.

Bucking the bargain trend...

Obsolete models usually mean bargain prices – but not all the time. And here are two cars that prove it. Both show how important it is to do your homework.

Car: Suzuki Alto
For sale: £5,999 at www.autosales.skoda.co.uk
The city car was dropped last April, but this 50-mile 06-reg model is £5,999. It’s an auto with twin front airbags, a CD player and tinted glass – yet it’s not surprising it hasn’t been snapped up, as the Suzuki cost only £4,999 new! An ill-prepared buyer might be tempted, thinking they’re getting great value.

Car: Toyota Previa
For sale: £23,295 at Inchcape Toyota, W Bridgford, Notts
A popular choice since its launch in 2000, the Previa MkII was axed last year as the engines fell foul of emissions laws. But as Toyota isn’t replacing the full-size MPV, it remains desirable. This 2.4-litre petrol is still at list price, even though it’s two years old. You expect a decent discount for something of that age.
