Dacia Duster Oroch pick-up revealed in Buenos Aires

Renault pulls wraps off Dacia Duster based pick-up at Buenos Aires Motor Show, but it won't be coming to the UK in this form

Dacia Duster pick-up

Renault has been busy in Buenos Aires. It's just unveiled the new Sandero RS hot hatch at the Argentinian emerging market car show, and now its created its first ever pick-up truck using the Dacia Sandero 4X4 as a base. Neither model is set to come to the UK, however.

The Duster-based commercial vehicle was first teased in Sao Paulo last October, and is badged as the Renault Duster Oroch concept (see video below) with a production launch due at the end of 2015. But Renault confirmed to Auto Express that the only markets likely to see the pick-up will be Latin America and Russia.

The Duster Oroch pick-up was previously expected in concept form, but the version revealed looks fairly production-ready to us. The front end up to the B-pillar is borrowed almost unchanged from the standard 4x4 passenger car, but the Oroch is all change from there backwards. The double-cab layout gives way to a flat loadbed and drop-down tailgate, with silver roof rails extending upwards.

Although information is scarce, we’d expect the Oroch to make use of Renault’s existing engine line-up, meaning 1.6-litre petrol and 1.5-litre dCi diesel units will carry over from the Duster pretty much unchanged. The interior is also familiar Duster fare, although the more lifestyle capabilities of the pick-up may bring along some extra trim options.

Along with the new Duster pick-up, the Renault-Nissan Alliance is also readying its new Nissan Navara NP300 – though there’s still no word on whether it’ll come to the UK, despite being revealed almost a year ago. Rumour has it, this will later spawn a Mercedes pick-up that is likely to come here – expected in dealers by the end of 2017.

Now read more about the rumoured Mercedes pick-up truck.
