New Ford Edge ST: facelift brings 335bhp hot SUV, but not to the UK

Ford's 2018 Edge facelift package includes a new ST model, but it’s not for UK buyers.

Ford has pulled the wraps off a performance-based Edge ST at the 2018 Detroit Motor Show. However, UK buyers may be disappointed to hear that the model is not coming to our shores.

The Edge ST is powered by a 335bhp 2.7-litre V6 petrol engine that develops 515Nm of torque; power is delivered through an eight-speed automatic gearbox and standard all-wheel drive. Ford has yet to release any performance figures, however.

Further performance tweaks have been made in the shape of ST-tuned suspension and the inclusion of a new sport mode, which sharpens the throttle response, gearbox and delivers greater engine braking.

Visually, the ST is marked out by 21-inch alloy wheels, deeper front and rear bumpers plus a dual-exhaust setup. Inside, tweaks have also been made to the steering wheel, seat backs and scuff plates.

While the Edge ST may not be offered to UK buyers, standard models in the UK will benefit from the raft of visual changes such as the reshaped headlamps and grille brought in by the facelifted model. Engine options from the existing Edge will be carried over albeit with mild performance and efficiency tweaks.

In the US Ford has also improved the standard kit list on the Edge, but it’s not yet know if that will be reflected on UK models. Safety kit such as Post collision braking, Evasive steering assist and Adaptive cruise control have all been introduced.
