Dieselmax won award for setting oil-burning record, and JCB is now gearing up for green speed bid
23rd March 2007
JCB's Dieselmax has already won the prestigious Royal Automobile Club Dewar Trophy for its 350mph sprint across the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, US, last year (Newsweek, Issue 952). And the firm has a new eco-friendly plan in the pipeline - with top brass using the awards ceremony last week to announce it.
Hot on the heels of its diesel success, JCB revealed its next record-breaking challenge will be powered by biofuel. Boss Sir Anthony Bamford said: "Dieselmax already runs a 20 per cent mix, but we are now looking at solely using biofuel." JCB wasn't the only carbon-busting firm being given the thumbs-up, as the Club handed out another award for a green project at its ceremony.
Technology firm Zytek picked up the Simms Medal for developing and producing engines used to power hybrid and electric vehicles.
