This is the all-new Genesis, which makes its world debut at last week's New York Motor Show. The sleek saloon previews a luxurious new rear-wheel-drive vehicle, which is set to shake up the market and put the likes of BMW and Mer-cedes firmly in its sights when it hits showrooms next year.
The large, chrome-finished grille and hi-tech LED headlights give the Genesis an imposing presence, and the concept provides a clue to the look of future Hyundai offerings.
As well as the striking front end, the rear has been given similar treatment, with a high, BMW-style boot-lid which integrates neatly with the back bumper.
Under the bonnet, there's an all-new 300bhp 4.6-litre V8 which is mated to a clever semi-auto box. It gives the show car impressive pace, with the 0-60mph sprint taking six seconds.
The rear-wheel-drive set-up improves weight distribution for sure-footed handling and refined steering, and this is enhanced further by electronic stability control. The roadgoing model will also be available with a large-capacity diesel powerplant in a bid to compete with its 5-Series and E-Class rivals. Inside, the cabin uses plenty of wood and leather to give a high-quality feel.
And there's no shortage of cutting-edge technology, either, including sat-ellite navigation, Bluetooth wireless connectivity, a rear parking camera and surround-sound stereo. Occupants are also pampered, with four large heated and air-conditioned seats.
Set to make its official debut in 2008, the production model will be badged the i70. While prices have yet to be announced, expect the newcomer to undercut the established executive crowd when it hits US and Korean showrooms first.
