Cat’s on comeback trail

Jaguar's racing return is now less than a month away

15th April 2007

As exclusively revealed in Auto Express at Christmas, the marque is rebuilding after its F1 failure, and is gearing up to contest the FIA GT3 series with a competition-spec XKR.

Although the Jag race cars are being built privately by Buckingham-based Apex Motorsport, the new programme comes with full factory blessing. With the international series kicking off at Silverstone over the May Day bank holiday weekend, the team has been preparing for action.

As part of the final build-up, former BTCC race winner David Leslie put the XKR through its paces at the soggy Silverstone circuit last week, and he was impressed. “This is an excellent chassis,” he stressed. “It handled extremely well, even in the wet, and ran reliably all day. The aero-dynamic balance, brakes and transmission are all very good and the car, of course, looks phenomenal.”
