This is the GS Zagato, created by the renowned coachbuilder based in Milan. Inspired by the Maserati A6G Zagato of the Fifties, it boasts swooping aluminium bodywork, but has a practical hatch at the rear.

Beneath the two-seater lie the underpinnings of the GranSport Spyder - although you would be hard-pressed to spot any similarities with the production model. The faired-in tail-lights, pronounced rear wings and flush-fitting tailgate will be neatly complemented by Maserati's legendary logo on its bonnet. Meanwhile, the Z emblem on the front wings leaves onlookers in no doubt about the styling house's input.

The pair of exhausts poking out from the rear bumper indicate it's likely to use the same 400bhp V8 engine as is found in the GranSport, even though the new car has a shorter wheelbase.

The two-door was commissioned by a wealthy Italian businessman, and made its debut at the recent Concours d'Elegance Villa d'Este in Cernobbio, Italy. It follows the coachbuilder's long-standing tradition of offering bespoke bodywork. At last year's show, Zagato unveiled the Ferrari 575GTZ.
