You certainly can’t accuse Peugeot of under-exploiting its 207 range! The supermini was launched only last year, but already there are GTi, convertible and estate versions. And now, there’s another addition – the 207 SW Outdoor. It’s based on the standard estate, and inspired by the SW Outdoor concept first seen at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
The newcomer has chunky off-road looks and a raised ride height – but these are largely for show, as the car uses the standard SW’s front-wheel-drive transmission. On sale in the UK from November, the Outdoor joins a growing band of 4x4 lookalikes for drivers who demand chunky lines, but not off-road capability.
Volkswagen’s Polo Dune and Citroen’s C3 XTR have paved the way and enjoyed some success, but Peugeot hopes the SW’s larger load area and superior practicality will appeal to a wider range of buyers.
Four engines will be offered at launch, ranging from a 75bhp 1.4-litre petrol to a 110bhp 1.6-litre HDi unit. Prices will be announced soon
