VW expands green range

Volkswagen set to offer more eco-friendly BlueMotion versions as it expands green range

Volkswagen BlueMotion
BlueMotion range uses advanced technology to both cut emissions and boost fuel economy

28th September 2007

Is blue the new green at Volkswagen? With plans to grow the BlueMotion line-up to eight variants, VW will soon have the most models using the latest clean emission technology in the UK.

Along with the already available Polo BlueMotion, the German firm will introduce eco-friendly versions of the Passat, Golf, Golf Plus and Golf Estate by the end of 2007, with the Jetta, Touran and Caddy van planned for the following year. BlueMotion is set to become more widespread as its advanced engine and exhaust technologies help reduce emissions, while aerodynamic body changes reduce drag and boost economy.

For example, the diesel-powered Golf BlueMotion 1.9 TDI returns 62.8mpg, while producing only 119g/km of CO2. This compares with 55.4mpgh and 135g/km for the standard car. VW claims there are minimal performance sacrifices.
