Champ Glock eyeing F1

New GP2 champion Timo Glock is looking to follow in the wheeltracks of Lewis Hamilton by stepping up into Formula One.

German is ready to move up to F1 after his success in feeder series

The German captured the F1 feeder series title in commanding style by winning the season finale at Valencia in Spain. Rival Lucas di Grassi was never in contention, crashing out of the first race and finishing 13th in the second.

Glock is no stranger to F1 after contesting four grands prix for Jordan in 2004 and finishing seventh in Canada on his debut. He has also been BMW’s test driver for the past two seasons. Now the 25-year-old is hoping to emulate past GP2 champions Hamilton and Nico Rosberg with a full-time drive in the premier championship. A race seat at either Toyota or Williams is thought to be on the cards.

“GP2 is the place to be to make your way to F1,” said Glock. “You’ve seen that with Nico and Lewis as the series’ last two champions.”
