DIY car manual specialist Haynes has launched the Build Your Own Internal Combustion Engine kit, which can be put together without getting your hands dirty. You don’t need power tools, oil or a garage to create your mechanical masterpiece – just a table and a rainy afternoon.

The model, which measures 180mm high, 270mm long and 140mm wide, lets you understand the workings of a car’s engine by lighting key parts – such as the pistons, valve gear, fanbelt and spark plugs. And it sounds like the real thing, too.
