Chrysler's Detroit concepts

Trio of concept cars prove a big hit at the Detroit Motor Show.

15th January 2008

Going green has been the theme of this year’s Detroit Motor Show, and Chrysler is going all out to reduce emissions with three environmentally conscious concept cars.

As these pictures show, all three models were mobbed by journalists as soon as they were unveiled, and all three offer a very different take on the future of motoring.

The most traditional looking model is the Jeep Renegade Concept. Building on the classic lines of the Jeep Wrangler, the 4x4 can travel 40 miles on its lithium-ion battery pack. For longer journeys the Jeep is fitted with an advanced 1.5-litre BLUETEC diesel engine which extends the driving range to 400 miles.

Next up is the Chrysler ecoVoyager Concept. Pointing the way to the future of the firm’s MPV range, the people carrier offers luxurious transport for four. It has a lithium-ion battery, while also being powered by a hydrogen fuel cell on longer trips.

However, for performance fans, it’s the Dodge ZEO that’s the most exciting of the three show cars. The electric-only 2+2 has the very latest lithium-ion battery pack and is capable of travelling 250 miles. What’s more, the rear-wheel drive model is capable of 0-60mph in less than six seconds.
