A famous Big Cat is about to roar into view again. This silver dream
machine is the all-new C-Type – and it’s set to turn the spotlight on
Jaguar.
We previously revealed the Coventry firm’s plans for
an exciting new roadster. Now, Auto Express has learned Jaguar is
planning to take the stunning sports car further upmarket.
Sitting
below the XK, the C-Type line-up will cost between £45,000-£50,000,
targeting top-end performance cars such as Audi’s TT RS, the Mercedes
SLK 55 AMG and Porsche’s Cayman with a blend of pace, luxury and
practicality.
Following the radical but well received XF and
XJ, the newcomer is another exciting departure for the brand. It is
likely to be available as a fixed-head coupé or, as shown by our
illustrations, a roadster.
As you can see from our images, the
C-Type will be a forward-looking design with an XJ-style grille and
distinctive headlight arrangement.
With a lots of chrome mesh,
sporty air intakes and a bold bonnet bulge, it has plenty of road
presence. That continues in the sculpted edges along the flanks, vast
chrome alloys and pert but muscular tail complete with twin exhaust
pipes. An electrically operated folding canvas roof, to be stowed
behind the occupants’ heads, completes the look.
The C-Type
will be also be practical. Similar in size to Audi’s A5, it will have a
useful boot and while our images show only two seats, the finished
article is likely to have four.
As with the XK, the new
C-Type’s chassis will be an aluminium monocoque with extruded body
panels, an arrangement that is lightweight but highly strong and stiff,
benefitting handling response and also refinement.
Power will
come from Jaguar’s latest 5.0-litre V8, producing 380bhp. There’s also
the possibility of a twin-turbo diesel and even an R version powered by
the company’s supercharged 500bhp V8.
All models will get
Jaguar’s super-slick six-speed automatic transmission, complete with
paddle shifters. Expect the C-Type to arrive in concept form in 2011,
with the production version following a year later.

I just hope they don't come out with this. Looks good but it does not follow the theme of the jag coupe design. it needs a opal grill that's how previous coupe's have been designed. Each model should be different. Don't for god's sake make the same stupid mistakes that BMW, Audi and Merc are doing - making all their cars look the same but just a bit bigger! pull out the paper and pencil and do a proper design.
I have had XJ's and an XJR, and I love the cars. The reason i won't buy the XKR, or the newest model Jag, is that while they're exceptional driving cars, last forever, and smooth and elegant to ride in, they just don't 'GO'. Look, let's take the HP, and add a turbo. Or at least get us into a decent tiptronic curve so that when we drive it manually all that HP is available, in raw form.
In other words. I would love Jaguar to put out something that would feel something like my Boxster S, or Ferrari, so that all that elegant luxury would be combined with adrenaline.
"Stop compromising."
Not a bad looking car but no C Type and a disapointing Name to give to a cruiser in terms of ability as I expect it will be more similar to a Mercedes SL and with auto and paddles -its not going to be hardcore enough for such a name, style wise the grill doesn,t do it for me. Jaguar company history should mean something to Jaguar whoever they are now? it will sell especially in US I expect....in europe most buyers might like a change from mercs?
This will definately be replacing my wifes very dull A4 cab 3.0tdi quattro instead of an equally dull A5 we have been in the same turmoil for years forced to own BMW AUDI or MERC CABS as second car Range Rover TDV8 Vogue SE car NO1 and my toy Lotus exige cup, no one else makes a decent 2X2 cab with big diesel lump well done TATA at last it seems somebody knows how to build what people really want not what just a few purists tell them to build.
This article says the imagine of 2 seater & likely to finish with 4 seater. I'm Confused. Does any you guys have likely option. I would like 4 seater. Early Jag Model sports had 2 seaters & the E-type was one of them.
Damn you Callum!!! Get the 'leaper' OFF the boot!! NO Jag ever had such a stand-out historical design cue relegated to the boot, AND leaping sideways into the undergrowth. It IS dumb, and LOOKS dumb. Then there seems confusion about how many seats need to be jammed into a TWO seater sports car. Granted, the original E-Type was a 2 seater and got steroided up to 4 seats, but the C-Type NEVER had 4 seats.
Nuff said........
We don't need another awkward looking 4 seat GT. The grill of this car is way too large and needs to have a downward slope with an elegant snout and grill opening. The rear is too much like a Mazda MX-5, which isn't necessarily bad, but this car isn't a Mazda. Why emulate the cheap stuff? Target the Porsche Boxter S and Cayman S, respectively. Give the car some spirt and growl. Please don't make it another, for all intents and purposes, lowrider.

Looks like someone's computer had a systems error generating the offside rear light of the C-Type...
